Class of 2024

Celebrating Excellence: Class of 2024 IB, AP and BTEC Results

Stamford American International School proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of the Class of 2024 in the International Baccalaureate (IB), College Board Advanced Placement (AP), and BTEC examinations. The results reaffirm Stamford American’s commitment to holistic education and inclusion, demonstrating that a well-rounded approach can go hand-in-hand with exceptional academic performance in globally recognized assessments.

By offering students the choice between the IB Diploma and AP programs, Stamford American empowers them to forge their own unique futures. We extend our congratulations to all students who embraced the challenge of these courses, regardless of the result. After all, the College Board emphasizes that “evidence shows that AP students who earn scores of 2 on their AP Exams have significantly stronger college outcomes than similar students who did not take an AP course and exam.”

The 2024 results not only reflected improvement from the previous year but also surpassed global averages. Our IB Diploma cohort achieved an impressive 96% pass rate (compared to the global average of 80%) with an average score of 34.6, exceeding the global mean of 30.32. This cohort also undertook more IB exams than any previous year, and in nearly half of those exams, students earned an impressive score of 6 or higher. Consequently, it is no surprise that our mean exam score of 5.45 significantly outperformed this year’s global mean.

At Stamford American, we continue to place special emphasis on the IB Diploma’s core components. In previous years, our Extended Essay results have shown notable improvement, and with a renewed focus on Theory of Knowledge, this year’s students achieved our best core results yet. Nearly twice as many students earned As in this distinctive subject compared to the global average, and over double when compared to our own results last year.

Students in Grades 10-12 also had the opportunity to sit College Board AP exams, and over 200 students completed nearly 600 examinations. As with IB exams, our students exceeded global averages. A particularly strong indicator of success in this year’s AP results was that more than half of the Grade 11 and 12 students who sat for these exams were recognized as AP scholars. While the percentage of students worldwide  achieving this honor varies annually, it typically ranges between 10-15%. In fact, 20% of our AP candidates achieved an average score of at least 3.5 across all AP Exams taken, including scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Valedictorians David C. and Elaine C. scored the maximum score of 5 on all seven AP exams, while our Salutatorian, Tijana T.,scored a 5 in all eight of her exams .

In the BTEC programme, all our students successfully earned their qualifications, with three students achieving the highest possible qualification of D*D*D* in Art & Design and in Music.

We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievements of our students in the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP), and BTEC examinations this year. The students of the Class of 2024 worked diligently, and their dedication is reflected in the remarkable results.
