Pre-Kindergarten

Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten at the Early Learning Village

What is Pre-Kindergarten?

Pre-Kindergarten at our Early Learning Village is an exciting and nurturing environment designed to prepare children for their educational journey. It serves as a bridge between early childhood and formal schooling, focusing on developing essential skills and fostering a love for learning.

What is a Typical Day Like?

A typical day in Pre-Kindergarten is filled with engaging activities that promote learning through play and exploration. Children have the opportunity to participate in guided inquiry and learning centers tailored to their interests, allowing them to tap into their innate curiosity and creativity.

Program Overview

Our Pre-Kindergarten program is inquiry-based, emphasizing play-based learning and small/whole group sessions. We follow the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), ensuring that all children have access to learning opportunities and are appropriately challenged.

Learning Approach

  • Inquiry & Play Based Learning: Children engage in guided inquiry and learning through play, fostering curiosity and exploration.
  • Small/Whole Group Sessions: These sessions include discussions, games, teaching of math, language & literacy, and International Baccalaureate PYP (Primary Years Programme) concepts, as well as storytelling and creative activities.
  • Universal Design for Learning: Our engagements are purposefully planned to ensure that every student has access to learning and is being appropriately challenged with his/her learning.
  • Social & Emotional Learning: We prioritize social and emotional development through daily feelings check-ins, positive reinforcement, modeling of the Learner Profile Attributes, and a strength-based approach to celebrating children’s work.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Early Learning Village (ELV) empowers young children, fostering independence and self-directed learning. Our ELV children explore diverse cultures, languages, and art forms within a state-of-the-art facility and a welcoming, multicultural atmosphere. Alongside academic growth, they develop exceptional emotional and social skills that set them apart from other infant care, nursery, and kindergarten programs in Singapore.

Children enrolled in the Early Learning Village are also better prepared to thrive in the inquiry-based, integrated Elementary Years curriculum and, later, in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) that is also offered by SAIS. For parents seeking the advantages of an International Baccalaureate education, enrolling their children in Stamford American Early Learning Village is a wise choice.

The Early Learning Village offers programs tailored to children from 2 months to 6 years old, encompassing infant care through kindergarten in Singapore. Its inclusive approach to very young children has established it as a popular choice for preschool in Singapore.

The Reggio Emilia approach, a unique child-centered educational philosophy born in Reggio Emilia, Italy, places a strong emphasis on collaboration, exploration, and creativity. In this approach, each child is encouraged to become an active participant in their own educational journey. At the Early Learning Village, we draw inspiration from the Reggio Emilia methodology to create an enriching childcare experience in Singapore. Our goal is to nurture independent, inquisitive individuals through this innovative approach.

Open house events are periodically organized at the Stamford American Early Learning Village. These occasions provide an excellent opportunity for parents contemplating enrolling their children at the ELV to personally visit the facilities and gain insights into the curriculum. For parents whose children are already enrolled at the ELV, open houses offer a chance to meet their children’s teachers and connect with other parents. To inquire about the schedule of the next planned open house, please reach out to the SAIS Admissions team.

The Stamford American international community is a rich tapestry of students, educators, and professionals hailing from more than 75 countries. This diversity creates a wonderfully multicultural environment at the ELV. Children attending our international preschool in Singapore have the unique opportunity to engage with peers and teachers from all corners of the globe, which broadens their perspectives and fosters an appreciation for diverse viewpoints.

Beyond this vibrant multicultural setting, the ELV places a strong emphasis on promoting tolerance and understanding of various cultures, truly embodying the spirit of an international preschool. Children enrolled at the ELV may also choose to learn Mandarin or Spanish, and they have the option to participate in after-school classes to study their mother tongue.

In the Stamford American Early Learning Village, children have the option to select daily Spanish or Mandarin lessons taught by native speakers as part of the language curriculum. These daily lessons will extend into their elementary years, with more in-depth 80-minute lessons during middle and high school. Furthermore, Stamford American provides an after-school mother tongue program through its diverse international community. This program offers weekly lessons in over a dozen languages, including French, Russian, Hindi, Hebrew, and Dutch.

At Stamford American, we value the active participation of parents in our school community. To foster this engagement, we have established various channels and initiatives to ensure parents can be an integral part of their child’s educational journey. Our dedicated Community Engagement Team is always ready to address parents’ concerns and queries. Additionally, we provide three convenient on-campus Parent Cafés where parents can engage in meaningful discussions with teachers and fellow parents, strengthening our sense of community.

Furthermore, parents have the opportunity to join the SAIS Parent Teacher Association (PTA), where they can explore additional avenues for involvement in their child’s early childhood education in Singapore. We encourage parents to connect, collaborate, and actively participate in shaping their child’s learning experience at SAIS. Join our PTA and engage in your child’s educational journey.
