Advanced Placement Program

Introducing the AP Program

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program, developed by the College Board in the United States, allows high school students to engage in college-level coursework. Through AP courses, students tackle rigorous academic challenges and showcase their dedication to academic excellence and college readiness. Offered globally, AP courses are highly respected by universities worldwide and provide students with the opportunity to earn college credit and advanced placement in U.S. colleges.

Age Group

At Stamford American International School, AP courses are available to students from Grades 10 through 12. Each course concludes with an AP exam in early May, where students can demonstrate their mastery of the subject. Scoring a 3 or above (on a 1-5 scale) can often translate to college credit, and AP exams are recognized as equivalent to A-Levels for entrance systems in countries such as the UK, Netherlands, and Australia.

Key Features

  • College-Level Rigor: AP courses provide college-level content, preparing students for higher education with advanced, challenging coursework.
  • Global Recognition: AP courses are valued by universities globally, and AP exams are recognized as equivalent to A-Levels, beneficial for university entrance in countries such as the UK and Australia.
  • College Credit and Advanced Placement: Scoring 3 or higher on an AP exam can result in college credit and/or placement in advanced college courses, saving students time and cost in higher education.
