Frequently Asked Questions

The school year starts in August and lasts until June, with a holiday break that starts in mid-December and ends in early January. This mostly mirrors the typical Singapore international school admission calendar. Please see the SAIS school calendar for details.

While there is a set school year, students aiming for Singapore international school admission can join the Stamford American community at any time, provided there are slots available. Contact the Admissions Department at +65 6653 2949 or visit our application process page to learn more.

Yes. The Stamford American community is made up of students, teachers, and other professionals from over 75 countries, making it a truly international institution. The “American” in Stamford American refers to the approach, curriculum, and high school diploma that the school offers.

SAIS is noted for its bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural language program. Students enrolled in the Early Learning Village and Elementary School programs learn daily Mandarin or daily Spanish lessons from bilingual teachers. English is the primary medium of instruction, but some content is also presented in Mandarin, one of Singapore’s official languages and one of the most spoken languages in the world. English is also taught from Elementary through High School. An all-ages Mother Tongue program is also available to teach young learners a variety of other languages after school hours.

Expat families hoping for Singapore international school admission should note that Stamford American International School is the only school in Singapore that offers Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), and Business and Technical Education Council (BTEC) Diploma curricula. All students who complete their high school requirements earn a US-accredited Stamford High School Diploma. They may also earn an IB Diploma, AP International Diploma, or BTEC Diploma should they pursue and complete those paths.

Stamford American School has two campus locations, the Woodleigh Campus at 1 Woodleigh Lane for Elementary School and Secondary School students, and the Early Learning Village for younger learners at 3 Chuan Lane, Gate 4. Visit our campus locations page to learn how to get to either campus.

Students can take public buses or the MRT. The Woodleigh Campus is located close to the Woodleigh Station and the Early Learning Village is located near the Lorong Chuan station. Parents may also drive and drop off their children at either campus. Stamford American also offers island-wide door-to-door bus services.

Stamford American schedules regular in-person and virtual open house events. Parents who are considering Stamford American for their child are highly encouraged to visit SAIS so that they may appreciate the facilities and the school curricula in person.

Parents can join the SAIS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to keep up to date with their school events as well as their child’s progress. A Community Engagement Team is also available on campus from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm to answer parent’s questions. Parents may also discuss matters with other
members of the Stamford community at one of the three Parent Cafés situated on campus.

Yes. As part of its vision to mold young individuals into global citizens, SAIS offers experiential learning in communities outside of Singapore with its Field Studies program. Starting from Grade 3, students visit local and international destinations to conduct field studies and gain a firsthand understanding of various disciplines. Students who go on international field trips may learn about ecological literacy, outdoor skills, and other critical concepts.

SAIS considers tech literacy an important part of a holistic education, but it also acknowledges the pitfalls of unguided technology use. To ensure the best learning outcomes, the school’s Digital Learning and Technology program encourages students to use technology in a purposeful, ethically sound
manner.

Students from KG2 to Grade 5 are provided with iPads, and students in Grades 6 to 12 are issued MacBooks in a 1:1 device program. The use of these devices is governed by students’ learning needs as well as by an ethical framework that was developed by Stamford American’s own students.

Stamford American’s advanced music, visual arts, and performing arts programs have come to be a major draw for young individuals who envision a Singapore international school admission and a career for themselves in creative fields. Creative subjects are taught at all year levels at SAIS, helping enhance students’ capacities for empathy, problem-solving, and the many technical aspects associated with creating art at high levels. With the school offering high levels of academic rigor along with its creative subjects, it’s no wonder that Stamford American alumni have a reputation for being well-rounded.

To reinforce the institution’s identity, all Stamford American students are required to wear school uniforms. School and physical education uniform sets are required at all levels. Uniform sets and other school items may be purchased at Lim Meng Keng Department Store.
