Kindergarten 1

Welcome to Kindergarten 1 (KG1) at the Early Learning Village

What is KG1?

KG1 at our Early Learning Village is a foundational year for children aged 4-5, designed to stimulate their curiosity, creativity, and love for learning. It provides a nurturing environment where children can explore, play, and develop essential skills that prepare them for future academic success.

What is a Typical Day Like?

A typical day in KG1 is dynamic and engaging, filled with a variety of activities that cater to different learning styles. Children participate in teacher-facilitated, play-based learning experiences that encourage exploration and discovery. They also engage in transdisciplinary learning of concepts across subject and specialist areas, fostering a holistic approach to education.

Program Overview

Our KG1 program is guided by the principles of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), which frames the curriculum and encourages students to think independently and take responsibility for their learning. We use the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment system to ensure academic rigor and to support teachers in planning, scaffolding, and differentiating instruction.

Learning Approach

  • Theme-Based Learning: Children explore four themes throughout the year, deepening their conceptual understandings and strengthening their knowledge and skills.
  • Play-Based Learning: Learning through play is a key component of our program, allowing children to develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills in a supportive environment.
  • Specialist Lessons: KG1 students have the opportunity to participate in specialist lessons, including art, physical education (twice a week), general music and Suzuki music, daily Mandarin or Spanish lessons, and 8 weeks of swimming lessons in the academic year (once a week).

The Early Learning Village (ELV) empowers young children, fostering independence and self-directed learning. Our ELV children explore diverse cultures, languages, and art forms within a state-of-the-art facility and a welcoming, multicultural atmosphere. Alongside academic growth, they develop exceptional emotional and social skills that set them apart from other infant care, nursery, and kindergarten programs in Singapore.

Children enrolled in the Early Learning Village are also better prepared to thrive in the inquiry-based, integrated Elementary Years curriculum and, later, in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) that is also offered by SAIS. For parents seeking the advantages of an International Baccalaureate education, enrolling their children in Stamford American Early Learning Village is a wise choice.
